Free the Hen: Advocating for Cage-Free Uganda

Welcome to Free the Hen, a Project of Uganda Vegan Society

This is part of our strategy to advocate for a compassionate future where the cruel practice of battery cages is a thing of the past. Our mission is to end the inhumane confinement of hens in Uganda by promoting cage-free farming through corporate outreach campaigns, securing commitments from businesses, and fostering a culture of animal rights.

Why Cage-Free ?

Battery cages are small, cramped wire enclosures that severely restrict the movement of hens, depriving them of the ability to express their natural behaviors. These conditions cause immense suffering, leading to physical and psychological harm. By advocating for cage-free practices, we aim to ensure that hens live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Our Approaches

• Corporate Outreach: We work directly with corporations, including supermarkets, restaurants, and food producers, to encourage and support their transition to cage-free egg sourcing. By securing cage-free commitments, we drive industry-wide change that benefits millions of hens.

• Engaging Farmers: We collaborate with farmers to educate and support them in transitioning to more humane and sustainable farming practices. This includes providing resources, training, and incentives to help them adopt cage-free systems that are better for the animals and more profitable in the long run.

• Community Awareness: We raise awareness about the plight of hens in battery cages and the benefits of going cage-free. Through educational campaigns, public outreach, and collaboration with other animal rights organizations, we inspire consumers to make informed choices and support humane practices.
